Navigating Neurodiversity: embracing a new approach in talent assessment
By Getfeedback on Dec 13, 2023

Picture the excitement of the hiring scene where candidates openly share their unique experiences, shining a light on the incredible potential within neurodiversity. Recent research has highlighted the benefits and importance of the diverse perspectives neurodivergent individuals bring to the table. How can we integrate neurodiversity into our recruitment assessments and ensure a smooth hiring journey for everyone involved?

When it comes to giving candidates the ability to demonstrate their strengths, ability tests have been identified as one way of doing this. Research has demonstrated that neurodivergent individuals typically hold their ground in cognitive ability tests and often surpass expectations, and they often complete assessments in similar if not shorter, timeframes.
As more candidates openly disclose their neurodiversity, we've intensified our supporting efforts. Through collaborating with various test publishers, we're refining a personalised approach, recognising the diversity within neurodivergent conditions, and tailoring assessments to meet individual needs.
When it comes to online assessments, we advocate for reasonable adjustments. Whether that's providing additional time, or making assessments accessible through tools such as screen readers and colour adjustments, we're dedicated to creating inclusive environments. Assessments like RAVENS play a crucial role by allowing people to leverage their unique strategies for success.
We recognise the application process can be anxiety-inducing, particularly for neurodivergent individuals. We provide a clear and transparent overview of the assessment process, establish clear expectations for each stage, and provide access to practice tests. Our goal is to support our clients to establish a level playing field where everyone has the chance to thrive.
Exciting research is being conducted on the experience of differing assessments in neurodivergent individuals. Soon we will have a deeper understanding of how various conditions affect performance and candidate reactions to these assessments, including autism, dyslexia, dyspraxia, and more. As the research continues to unfold, so will our approach.
Embracing neurodiversity isn't just an ethical choice; it's a strategic one too. Neurodiverse individuals offer alternative ways of thinking, broadening the scope of ideas in your organisation. By ensuring these individuals have the chance to shine in the recruitment process, we're not just equalising the playing field; we're opening the doors to the spectrum of talent.
If you're interested in how your organisation can recruit the best talent then please get in touch with us today. We will provide you with the most up-to-date talent assessments and guidance on how to interpret them.
